High-power user equipment (HPUE) can help bridge Band 14 coverage gaps in rural, in-building location

Bob LaRose Speaking at IWCE 2019

In response to requests from the First Responder Community, US and international regulatory authorities have authorized the use of High Power User Equipment (HPUE) on the FirstNet LTE Band 14. The use of HPUE, with approximately six times the output power of standard “Smart Phones,” can provide First Responders with additional range, coverage and uplink speeds to meet their mission requirements and provide deep in-building penetration. HPUE can also “fill the gaps” when base stations become disabled due to natural or man-made phenomena. Review the results of the field tests of HPUE technology demonstration equipment on existing Band 14 systems to confirm the range and performance enhancements.
